There are indigent programs that cover hospital bills. If you have to beg your fans to pay your “hospital bill” then you qialify. Stop scamming people. There are causes out there that actually need financail support and people like you, who don’t work and expect everyone to carry you really suck. Stop hustling people and use the mechanisms provided – BY LAW – in every hospital in the United States.
And just so you know:
I am legally disabled. I make $700 a month on disability. I have nothing and no one help me. I gave up trying to fund my film about homelessness – i.e. helping save peoples lives, and I live in cheap motels or on the street to continue doing my advocacy work. You are worried about paying your hospital bill because you have a credit rating. People that are truly destitute don’t have credit to worry about.
There is a limited amount of sympathy, emnpathy, and money to help people. You sit here and beg tohave your hospital bill paid when there are quite literally federal funds available to pay your bill. you are eating up very the very limited resources people have available to help the planet by selfishly using your talents as an artist tohelp yourself.
Go ahead, have your fans pay your bills but know that every dollar you recieve froma fan buys 10 poundsof food at a foodbank. Know that while you sit in your house, drawing pictures all day that there are people freezing to death in the streets. Wouldn’t it be nice if everyone saw my point of view and refused to help you maintain your credit rating instead choosing to help someone die from hypothermia.
I don’t know you. I don’t care who you are but you are the third web comic artost i have seent hat is pulling this “please help me” bit while sitting on a $1500 computer, scanner, art supplies. I know when I needed to pay my bills I had to give up my art for a bit. But we wouldn’t want you to have to struggle a bit would we?
Dude, I don’t know this person, either. But, as a blogger, she is offering something in exchange for a donation. In essence, she IS doing what you suggested LOL… She’s offering art for any amount of money. Just because she’s calling it a donation, it should really be a set price, in my opinion! As an artist and writer myself, I applaud her efforts. She is taking her talent and USING it…. I don’t see her commenting on your blog or art and telling you off and calling you a “Beggar’! LOL
Now, I cannot help that you are disabled, but maybe if you got off whatever pity pot you are on, and tried your hand again at your creative venture…and, oh, I don’t know…maybe gave something back to the world…. Just sayin’. You haven’t walked in this artist’s shoes…as she hasn’t walked in yours. So, you can’t pass judgement until you have, right???
If you choose not to pay for the comic she is offering, that’s your choice. But, how can you, in good conscience, sit here and berate her for trying to make a friggin’ living! LOL….She’s not asking for a handout!
You really don’t know anything about her, not even the fact that she HAS A FREAKING JOB beyond her art and it was due to passing out at that job that she hurt herself had to go to the damn hospital in the first place. Oh, look at that, she’s a contributing member of society with a ‘real’ job who does her art on the side as extra income? Oh man, that’s so horrible of her, wanting to provide herself with a reasonably comfortable life instead of giving everything away to help others and thus put herself into that very same destitute position. How selfish.
Your line of “I know when I needed to pay my bills I had to give up my art for a bit. But we wouldn’t want you to have to struggle a bit would we?” tells me you’re some bitter bastard who is attacking someone who can make money off their own talents and hard work.
Making a living off one’s talents isn’t selfish. Miss Flores is offering a product in exchange for payment, there is nothing scammy about that. She isn’t begging, she’s letting people know that she’s in a rough spot right now and that, if they want to now would be a great time to buy some of her products to help keep her on her feet.
A few years ago I got sick, really really sick and no one could tell me what was wrong. I ended up with a pile of hospital and doctors bills that I literally could not pay. I talked to the hospital about help as you’ve suggested to Miss Flores and you know what, it cut the bills down a bit but I still owed about $2,000 I didn’t have and EVERY cent of what I managed to make went to paying off those bills off.
$700 a month? I WISH I made that much, I scrape and save all the money I can and I can’t even remember that last time I had that much money in my bank account. Your story doesn’t check out man, $700 a month is more then enough to rent a low income apartment and feed yourself if you’re smart about your spending. Oh and I notice your posts are about an hour apart so where every you are you obviously have internet access. You must be suffering so hard.
Take the time you spend attacking innocent people online and do something worthwhile. People like you that go around and attack people doing the best they can make me sick.
Wow, what dicks. Seriously, go fuck yourselves. While, yeah, she should be looking into financial aid, you don’t have to be a huge twat about it.
There’s nothing wrong with an artist making a living off their art, and when a big, unexpected bill comes along, you gotta do what you gotta do. Maybe she doesn’t qualify for financial aid because her income is too high, or any of the other thousand reasons?
Without a credit rating, it’s incredibly difficult to deal with huge expenses like this. If she can get enough money from this donation drive, or even taking out a loan, it will keep HER out of the gutters. So, yeah, asking some people who enjoy her art, and would pay for it, is helping prevent someone dying of hypothermia.
Do you have any idea how hard it is for artists to actually make a living?
And $700 a month keeps you on the streets? In what universe? I’m living in an apartment right now at $550/mo including utilities, and groceries cost less than $200/mo for one person, especially if you shop at discount stores.
Wherever you are, there’s low-income housing. Sorry if I don’t buy the sob story you’re giving to try and put down this woman. I also have a hard time believing that you have the sort of disability that physically prevents you from working, but you can also live on the street?
Oh, you spend all your money doing advocacy work?
So you CHOSE to not have a moderately comfortable life, so why the hell are you even complaining?
Madéleine, I don’t know you, I’ve never heard of you, but I totally support you. Don’t let asshole commenters get you down <3
Keep adding beauty to the world, there certainly isn't enough.
Ditto! Wholeheartedly ditto! <3
Give this man a medal.
